Michael Shannon is one of Australia’s most under-regarded major artists from the 1950s to the 1980s. Nearly twenty years after his passing, the Art Gallery of Ballarat presents a Shannon retrospective, giving visitors the opportunity to see works that merit comparison with those of his better known contemporaries.

Pulsating disks of colour dance around the screen in some kind of mesmerising cosmic world. Dissonant Particlesis an abstract animation that describes a world of tone, its interaction and lifespan. It is a microcosm where particles are born, live, interact and die.

Next Gen is an annual project of the Art Gallery of Ballarat which showcases a selection of the work of students from Ballarat and the region who have studied VCE art and design subjects the previous year.
