Marking the 40th anniversary of Ceramics Victoria Inc, this exhibition showcases some long hidden treasures from the Gallery,s vaults. Highlighting the strengths of the collection, Celebrating Ceramics include s a broad and eclectic range of ceramic styles and artists of National significance.

One of the most important contemporary sculptors, Peter Blizzard, is honoured with a major retrospective examining his career over more that four decades. The exhibition explores Blizzard's work and also his working method, including the evolution of major local commissions - the Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial in the Botanical Gardens.

The Art Gallery of Ballarat presents an exceptional world premiere exhibition showcasing a fascinating blend of photographs and memorabilia of legendary English rock band Queen.

Although Arnhem Land is an integral part of Australia, travelling to this part of the Northern Territory can seem like travelling to another country. It is not just a matter of the physical remoteness of the region; this is a place where indigenous languages – and there are many of them – are still spoken and where age old customs, tribal law, ceremonies and art are still part of every day life.

This travelling exhibition showcases Pacific Islander heritage. With a growing number of Pacific Islanders settling in Australia and an increasing awareness of Australia’s Pacific neighbours, it is timely that a major exhibition of tapa (bark cloth) has been developed and offers an opportunity to view traditional and contemporary Pasifika design and to learn more about Australia’s Pacific neighbours and migrant communities.

This exhibition presents a selection of printed items looking at landscape across various print processes and formats, printed from 1802 to 1880.

Kim Anderson’s work has always primarily been inspired by images of the body. After working more recently with light projection and installation, this series of work represents a return to the basic technique of drawing which has always been at the core of her artistic process.

This tradition goes back many centuries but has been at its most vibrant since mass circulation printing became common place in the late 18th century.

An exhibition of works by four art teachers, Paul Gerardi , Anne Langdon, Seona Murnane, and James Pasakos, who have all moved to Ballarat as part of their teaching careers. The exhibition of ceramics, prints, paintings and works on paper is a reflection of the artists’ impressions of Ballarat as seen from an ‘outsider’s’ perspective.

Jeffrey Bren: The Dark Mirror is an exhibition which looks at the work of a Ballarat born artist whose name has largely disappeared into the annals of time. In the early 1960s, Bren studied at the National Gallery Art School under John Brack who was to become a major influence on his work. As the recipient of various art prizes in the 1970 including the Georges Art Prize and the Art Gallery of Ballarat’s George Crouch Prize, Jeffrey Bren (1944-2007) was considered an impressive young talent early in his career.

This exhibition is made up of works acquired in the past twelve months, by donation, through various bequest and philanthropic funds and in some cases by direct purchase from the Gallery Association's tied funds for acquisitions.

Mason translates his vision of nature with meticulous lines and muted colours that exude sensitivity to both his medium and subject. As Mason writes "Drawing is the foundation of my practice, and in this show leads from an exploration of the physical world of nature, to paintings concerned with the experiential."

Gary Catalano was one of Australia's leading art critics and writers. After his death in 2002, the Art Gallery of Ballarat was given his personal collection of art which he had built up over 30 years from exhibitions he visited and by artists he knew.

2010 Marks the inaugural Rick Amor Drawing Prize $10,000 acquisitive prize for a small drawing at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.

Net Work: the TLF exhibition is an exhibition of work by 38 members of The Littlest Forum (TLF), an online forum for professional contemporary visual artists.

Kadder Coroma-Lock and Vivienne McDermott's BLACK + WHITE - After the Dreaming, celebrates the rich relationship indigenous people have with their land and explores the Australian relationship since white settlement.

This body of work examines themes of European exploration, mapping of new lands, and gardening traditions. It also refers to aspects of place and the predicament of displacement. Ongoing themes of domesticity and home making are also revisited.

A selection of photographs from among the 1000 entries submitted by photographers from all over Australia for the Ballarat Camera Club's 42nd Ballarat National Photographic Competition. They cover a fascinating diversity of themes including Nature Prints, Photojournalism; Creative/Experimental and People/Portrait.

Every year, the Gallery stages an exhibition which comprises a diverse range of art works by young artists from Ballarat and Grampians Region Secondary Colleges. Students who have undertaken studies in VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) Art, Studio Arts, Design and Technology, Visual Communication and Design in 2010 are invited to submit works for Next Generation - VCE Art and Design 2011.

This selection of works from the Gallery’s collection represents, for the most part, the generosity of her niece, noted ceramic artist Klytie Pate.
