This city of the future has created by
over 1200 children from local Ballarat schools have come to the Art
Gallery and Mining Exchange for a festival of art-making between
Monday 25 and Thursday 29 July. The city will remain on display
during the first week of the July school holidays.
The student s worked with local
artists Pauline O'Shannessy-Dowling, Eliza- Jane Gilchrist, Cath
Johnston, Kim Anderson, Sophie Ward, Yvonne Jeganathan and
Sylvia Nevistic, to create the components of this fantastic,
futuristic city growing out of a weird and wonderful strange garden
and populated by mythical and robotic inhabitants.
This display is the culmination of the ArtLink Festival which
the Gallery held during the last week of Term 2 to celebrate a year
of its ArtLink Schools Access Program with a week of artmaking
The ArtLink program provides free bus travel schools which don't
have the financial resources to bring students to the Gallery. This
is possible through a network of sponsorships and support,
involving the City of Ballarat, the Art Gallery of Ballarat,
VicHealth, Davis Buslines Gold Bus and Little's Coaches.
