Living Traditions: The Art of Belief

Saturday, April 27, 2013 - Sunday, June 30, 2013, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Ian Potter Foundation Gallery
Admission: Free

This exhibition draws upon diverse material from across all areas of the National Gallery of Victoria's rich collections to explore a range of living religious traditions found in the Australian community today.

The exhibition includes works of art rarely exhibited before, dating from the medieval period through to the contemporary, and takes a new look at religious practice and belief as seen through the eyes of artists past and present.

Manuscripts of sacred texts, ritual vestments, objects employed in worship and images of divinities will reveal the rich diversity and common threads of spiritual practice and belief in contemporary Australia.

The indemnification for this National Gallery of Victoria Touring Exhibition is provided by the Victorian Government.
