NEXT GEN 2010 - VCE Art & Design

See what the next generation of artists are doing at Next Gen 2010, the Art Gallery of Ballarat's annual showcase of 2009 VCE student work from across Western Victoria.

The exhibition reflects and gives voice to the concerns of a generation, providing a picture of what is important to young people as expressed in images, clothing and other works of art. Works in this year's Next Gen explore diverse themes, including beauty, nature, social issues, advertising, personal histories and emotions.

The exhibition surveys work from the study areas of Art, Studio Arts, Design and Technology, Media, and Visual Communication and Design.  Each study area looks at different aspects of the creative process and produces distinctly different outcomes. From Art that encourages students to explore ideas, techniques and working methods as they communicate ideas through experimentation, to Visual Communication and Design where students prepare a design brief defining the needs of a client, then meet those needs through a design process.

Awards for excellence are given to students in each of the study areas. These awards are made possible by the ongoing generous support of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development - Regional Office; Catholic Education Office, Ballarat and the Lions Club of Ballarat. This year there is a new award 'Most Outstanding - Across all Media', provided by the Ballarat Ladies Art Association. There are also encouragement awards provided by local sponsors, including Creative Framing, Radmac and Thornton Richards Camera House and a People's Choice Award.
