Territory presents a selection of large-scale charcoal drawings
which Noela Stratford has been produced in response to different
landscapes, ranging from swirling mists on a sacred Thai mountain
and enigmatic Hanging Rock, shrouded in mystery and intrigue, to
Milford Sound in New Zealand, where billowing mists blur and
obscure the massive forms of rock and foliage.
These multiple-panelled images explore the ways in which rich
black spaces and soft billowing mists can surround mysterious
shapes and inhabit familiar places. Each work has been shaped by
direct experience of each place.
Noela Stratford is a Bendigo-based artist with an international
reputation, whose work is represented in numerous Australian public
collections and in private collections in Australia Thailand, New
Zealand, England and the USA.
