One of the most important contemporary sculptors, Peter
Blizzard, is honoured with a major retrospective examining
his career over more that four decades. The exhibition
explores Blizzard's work and also his working method, including the
evolution of major local commissions - the Australian Ex-Prisoners
of War Memorial in the Botanical Gardens.
Blizzard has long had an affinity with nature and has developed a
series of symbols over the span of his career that reference the
environment both literally and spiritually. The
exhibition highlights the balance that he achieves between line,
form, mass, void, surface, and the symbols and vision that inform
his practice. Blizzard's sculptures have a presence that looks well
beyond the surface and invites us to reflect upon our connection to
the earth, our experience of our environment and the spiritual
connection between all things.
In Blizzard's own words "venerate the earth and walk lightly
upon it"
affinity.
