Darren Sylvester's work is multidisciplinary, involving photography, video, sculpture, sound and painting and his art practice is largely concerned with romantic themes of love, loss, alienation and the fragility of meaningful social relationships. He evokes these emotions with carefully staged photographic tableaus. He has exhibited widely throughout Australia and internationally since 1997. He is a finalist in the Guirguis New Art Prize 2013. Seraphim Trio is joined by brilliant trumpeter David Elton for this virtuosic program. Hummel's brilliant Trumpet Concerto is presented in its original 1802 version, for trumpet and piano trio. Beethoven's Trio in No. 3 also unfolds with virtuosity, in his signature key of C minor. An afternoon of solo works that aims to showcase the talent of Victoria's up and coming musicians from the University of Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and the Victorian College of the Arts, raising money for the Afghan Youth Orchestra, the first orchestra founded in Afghanistan for over 30 years, which it is hoped will be a training ground for an Afghan National Orchestra. Due to the tight budget and limited resources provided to the however, these students need help.
