Learning in and through the Visual Arts
The Art Gallery of Ballarat (AGB) offers a variety of tours and
workshops designed to appeal to students at different levels of
education and promote creative thinking, visual literacy,
communication skills, confidence in being in a gallery environment
and self-confidence in personal interpretations of art. We aim to
support classroom practice and extend knowledge and understanding
of the gallery's unique permanent collection and constantly
changing temporary exhibitions.
The AGB education program responds to the current Victorian
Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and Victorian Certificate of
Education (VCE) curriculum, having its foundation in the Visual
Arts and linking to other areas of learning.
This program integrates the following approaches to Learning in
and through the Visual Arts:
Exploring Art - Inquiry-based tours of the permanent
collection and temporary exhibitions.
Creating Art - Hands on activities in the Education
Displaying Art - Student exhibitions in the Gallery and
the Window on Lydiard Street.
Education Officers are available to conduct tours and run
workshops for Kindergarten, Prep to Year 10 and
VCE students. We also welcome the participation of
Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) and Tertiary
student groups in AGB programs.
