Jill Orr’s Detritus springs

The site triggered my imagination to make it possible. First, I must imagine it; then I make it with my body. With action and intent, I can then involve others.

After an initial discussion with her, if I’m super clear with what I’m performing and I’m in my zone, I know she will follow the flavour and tone of the work. She’s a professional.

There are so many options to go down. You can ramp up an image to become an amazing digital artefact, but I aim for a naturalistic and as untampered an image as possible.

I was very lucky that the crew – Ben Mangan, Dave McKinnar and Luke Keys – were all available. Often I will do the works only for the camera, separate from a live audience, but for this one I could have all the cameras set up at the same time. At least for this one, with all the architecture, darkness and smoke, the cameras were hidden from the live audience except for the drone taking off.
